Played in 27 games in two years at Stanford. Was named Honorable Mention All PAC 12 after his first season and made the All-Conference first team after the 2016 season. He was born in Chicago and then spent five years in his youth in Australia before his family settled in Coppell, Texas, where he played high school football. He received more than a dozen offers for college football. At Stanford, the Cardinal went 22 and 5 in his 27 games including a Rose Bowl win over Iowa in 2015 and a Sun Bowl victory over North Carolina in 2016. He was selected by San Francisco as the third overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and thus joins 2015 Morris Trophy winners Josh Garnett and DeForrest Buckner on the 49ers roster.
